As a young married man, I was never accused of being a handyman.
You know, being able to build, fix or repair “things”.
At that time, it just wasn’t a strong suit for me.
However, that never prevented me from trying…
One morning as I was walking through the kitchen past the laundry closet, our clothes dryer was making an awful squeaking noise.
I decided that THIS was a handyman project I could definitely handle.
I would “fix” the squeaking noise by spraying WD 40 into the back of the dryer while it was running.
Good plan, right?
What I didn’t realize at the time was that spraying a flammable lubricant into an electrical motor while running… might prove to be disastrous.
Well, you guessed it. The back of the dryer caught on F I R E!
Now to my credit, I immediately looked around the kitchen and found a big glass of water sitting on the counter. I grabbed it, poured the water right into the back of the dryer and problem solved, right?
WRONG! It made things worse.
Unfortunately, … I mean luckily, my wife happened to walk by about that time, and without saying a word she calmly reached into the kitchen pantry, grabbed a BIG box of baking soda and extinguished the F I R E.
After the fire was completely out, all she said to me was, “you need to clean that up”.
Looking back on that experience it reminds me again about the value of TEAM Work.
And, with age comes wisdom and experience!
We can’t be good at everything. 😊
The secret is to find what you do well and maximize those skills for yourself, your family and others.
Having someone that has your back is truly a blessing!
As we all know, life sometimes happens and when we least expect it.
Until next time…
Stay Safe and Be Well.
